Reflecting on the year I’ve had (and it’s been a good one!) and reminiscing over all of my favorite pieces. This painting is probably one of my top 3 paintings of all time! • Created as part of the #theChiaroscuroCollection— a collaboration with the most talented artists @suiteonestudio and @ebw_artwork . It was such an honor and SO inspiring to work with them. I can’t wait to see what collaborations 2018 brings my way! • Painting Featured: | OBSCURA | oil, 24k gold leaf, pigment on wood panel. 24” x 24” SOLD • Private Collection

Trials, experiments, hypotheses. I’m engaged in an art which relies on two separate crafts and craft has demands: rigorous, precise and severe requirements. Unsatisfied, these necessities point out the unfinished craftsman. But as we become accomplished at one aspect of one technique, we see ever more clearly how little we have grasped. That moves the curious to learn more, and more deeply. These vases are inscribed with a coloured glaze, rather than my usual underglaze. I was looking for a physical contrast, not just a visual one, between stroke and pot. This was a first attempt, knowing well that changing the composition of the medium would have unforseeable effects on the dynamics of moving the brush: it might stutter or glide too quickly or deposit glaze at all the wrong places or who knows.. Hence the experiment. And now I have two half-works. They are points of personal understanding, not works of art but a couple of new lexemes in my craft vocab.
