When people are dieting they will do almost ANYTHING to avoid hunger. It’s extremely common for people to use the following tactics: ____ -Eat POUNDS of vegetables per day trying to fill their stomach ____ -Drink 10 cans of Diet Coke, or have a gallon of Crystal Light ____ -Chew an entire pack of gum per day ____ -Eating mostly foods like Halo Top or high volume protein fluff ____ - Frantically trying things like Keto diets, carb cycling, high fats, intermittent fasting ____ When people are hungry they aim to pack in as much food volume as possible and get as much artificial sweet taste as they can. ____ Well, I’m here to say STOP! ____ I see so many competitors rage against the current of hunger but I can tell you firsthand that it’s not going to work. As body fat drops, you are going to be hungry no matter what you do. YOU CANNOT AVOID IT AND YOU CANNOT RUN FROM IT! You need to just let it happen and stop fighting it. Rather than fighting the current, relax, calm your mind, and let it take you. Remind yourself that you are okay, and that your rational brain knows that you are not in danger and that no harm will come to you from this feeling. ____ Instead of aiming for volumous foods, eat the foods you like. Instead of constantly bombarding your tastebuds with artificial sweeteners, learn to enjoy and appreciate the more subtle flavors in the foods you are eating because too many artificial sweeteners have actually been shown to increase hunger. ____ You’d be surprised how often my clients tell me that once they stop trying to desperately fight the hunger, things actually just get easier. They feel less frantic, they have less anxiety, and they oddly do feel less hungry. They accept it as inevitable and therefore are free from the stress of fighting it. ____ The trick is that you need to work on strengthening your mental game. You are not going to be able to avoid the extreme hunger. It’s impossible. So instead of trying to ease the hunger, you need to become mentally stronger so that the hunger just seems easier.
