Today s plant for
#WildEdibleWednesday is Oxalis, or common Wood Sorrel. There are several Oxalis subspecies common in nearly every temperate area of North America. Their leaves may be green or a dark reddish-purple, and their tiny blossoms may be yellow, purple, or white. The most common subspecies in North Georgia is Oxalis Stricta with its green leaves and yellow flowers. All share the same shamrock leaf shape, and all are edible, with no deadly mimics. It grows in open, partly sunny areas such as homestead sites, woods edges, and overgrown pastures. Like Broadleaf Plantain, it is also a very common lawn weed. Wood Sorrel is one of the best wild greens for eating. It has a tart, almost lemony flavor that lends itself well to mixed salads. It is extremely high in vitamin C and has traditionally been used to prevent scurvy. In addition to eating fresh, it makes a refreshing tea - simply pour boiling water over the fresh leaves, steep for thirty minutes, and sweeten with honey. It s even better iced, especially this time of year. . . . . . #SARCRAFT #survival #wilderness #wildernessculture #wildernesslifestyle #bushcraft #bushcrafters #fieldcraft #campcraft #camping #hiking #outdoorlife #outdoorlifestyle #outdoorliving #woods #woodslife #plants #nature #wildedibles #herbs #salad #food #herbalism #selfreliance #preparedness #beprepared #homesteading #southernsurvivalists #PREVAIL
