Two fangs out of five. Covenant with the Vampire (The Diaries of the Family Dracul
#1) Boy, that font! Brings back memories. I skimmed this book once but I couldn t figure out why the hell I should care about Arkady or who the hell he even was. Dracula s nephew? I guess? For some reason Arkady marries an English woman and when Dracula meets her, he, in a line that struck me, teen vampire fan, as so awkward and contrived and cliched, compares her eyes to sapphires. There s a whole series, I guess, and I think Dracula ends up sleeping with his nephew s wife (his niece in law?) except maybe the nephew is okay with it? Or dies? I don t know because I didn t read them because I couldn t figure out why I should care about the characters who weren t Dracula. The Goodreads description calls this book “more erotic than Anne Rice” which, uh, YIKES. I ll rate that train wreck some other time, but let s just say that I would not consider that a positive comparison. People who actually read the whole book seem to like it, so that s something. BUT the title is a blatant nod to Interview with the Vampire. I m not blaming the author for that, I strongly suspect that an editor or someone else at the publisher picked the title because they have really low opinions of people s intelligence. #vampires #covenantwiththevampire #dracula #irateyourvampires
