24 November 18:03:37 “Two Amanitas”— the season for these is almost here. I look forward to seeing them popping up everywhere.
18 November 21:21:00 My painting “Big-Leaf Maple with Mushrooms” won silver medal at the opening of the show “Out of the Woods” at the New York Botanical Garden last night!
14 November 14:04:19 Wolf lichen— Letharia columbiana. This was in the mountains in Montana. One of my favorite Lichens!
10 November 23:02:15 One time when I went on a hike to search for mushrooms to paint, I only found really little ones. I made this six-panel painting of tiny mushrooms. One of these, Marasmius quercophyllus, grows on dead oak leaves— the stalks are like little hairs.
09 November 23:58:46 New painting: Oak Galls and Lichens. This is a small one, I’m starting a large painting with Oak Galls.
07 November 16:22:45 “Lichens of the Pygmy Forest”. At Salt Point State Park there’s an area where the soil is shallow— a layer of hard pan limits the growth of trees. So cypress, pine and redwood trees stay small even when they’re full grown. There is a wonderful diversity of lichens here.
06 November 13:37:18 Another painted egg. The design for this one is from a Chinese porcelain cup.
05 November 14:13:53 Mushroom egg! I’ve been painting blown eggs for a holiday art show coming up in December.
01 November 23:35:23 ...
26 October 12:52:06 “Secrets of the Forest”— a piece from a few years ago.
23 October 00:38:35 Shell Beach, Tomales Bay. I worked on this during slow times at my Open Studio.
19 October 23:44:25 “Oak Twig with Lichens”. This was one of my earliest lichen paintings, still one of my favorites.
