“You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. Because it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.” ― Maya Angelou #dontgiveup

As the CrossFit community awaits the announcement of the workout that will kick off the @crossfitgames season, the collective mood is invariably marked by a kind nervous hysteria that is part excitement and part dread. Every year, the week leading up to the first Open announcement is wrought with panicked speculation about what the workout might be. Indeed, first time competitors and seasoned veterans alike are already pouring over @thedavecastro’s Instagram, in effort to decipher the workout based on a photo of a 17th century Spanish priest who moonlighted as a cartographer of the California coast.
Will 18.1 be a repeat? Will it include a new movement? What does Dave mean when he says he’s demolished the perimeters of the expected formats??? The answers to these questions are, understandably, of great interest to those of us who spend all year preparing for this competition. And yet, no amount of anxious forethought will change the fact that they are, ultimately, out of reach.
Stressing out about whether handstand walks or rope climbs will be in the Open this year will only make you less competitive. Imagine a matchbook. The matches inside represent all of your energy for the day. Energy is a finite resource; once it’s gone, you can’t get it back. If you burn through your matchsticks on things that are outside your control, you have less energy for things you can control—things that can actually move the needle on your performance.
As you prepare to take on 18.1 this week, let the hype roll over you and set yourself up for success by focusing on the things you can control.
Decide on the training schedule you will follow during the Open. Dial in your nutrition to the Nth degree. Make sure you’re in bed early this week and get 8 hours of quality sleep each night. When the time comes, decide on a strategy that works for you and focus all your effort on executing it to the letter. Pay attention to your warm-up. Familiarize yourself with the movement standards. Have an optimistic attitude and tell yourself the right story. These are the things we can control.

🚨Monday Motivation🚨”This has been what the check in’s and protein jokes have been about. I’m damn proud of myself, but I’m not going to spike the football as I still have a lot of work to do.
Noah and Rachel...you guys are great and thank you so much for letting me hang out. Can’t forget Jeremy either for showing me some great basics and working with me for at least 3 hours a week.
27 lbs and 10% body fat down. This is going to be a great summer if I keep this up. It’s only been six weeks and I’m feeling confident with my goals.
I also can’t not make a special note to my wife..Since I was on the diet plan, she was too. After putting in the hours at work and dealing with the purple line at rush hour, she always had dinner waiting for me and cheered me on. Jessica Silky Norris, you helped me so much! This is going to be a great year.
Now with that said, who wants to show me the #whey to burgers and a beer tonight?” - Brent, 6 Week Challenge Member #gicftransformations
