A little throwback to our @bittersoutherner article from last year! Did you know🤔 bees thrive in urban environments? We’ve been hearing questions from people asking if 🐝honey bee hives are pushing out native pollinators. It’s a great question, but for honey bees to push out native pollinators you’d need so many more hives than cities have🌆. You’d see that happening where hives are being moved for commercial beekeeping, but due to the large monoculture farming practices, that land is not hospitable to unmanaged bees anyway❎. Do our hive hurt native pollinators? In short, no. Our honey bee hives, as our Director of Community partnerships so wonderfully put it, are like the pandas🐼 of the insect world. People can relate to the🐝 honey bees, they love them, and want to care for them. Our hives and our honey bees then open the door to a much larger conversation🗣 around caring for all pollinators❤️, increasing native forage ⬆️and changing current agricultural practices🚜. We should not be hateful or vengeful to honey bees, for they are helping us tell a much larger story. Because of the corporate partners we have, we now have almost 50 connected miles of healthy honey bees and new pollinator friendly habitat. 🙌🏼We’re all in this together!

Just read this in an email from @airnz which I found rather interesting. To me things like this clearly point to a global shift in weather systems due to climate change. There has never been a more important time in history to act for the future of the planet we call home. You’d do anything you could to protect your own house wouldn’t you? But what would you do to protect the planet your very existence depends upon? Sadly many corporations are more focused on their profit and loss statements than on the sustainability of the planet. Which is funny because ALL of them rely on the planet in some way to even have a viable business in the first place. 🤔 But every single one of us can actually make a difference. As consumers we have a HUGE voice collectively if we only make a stand TOGETHER. I personally want to make a change. In whatever ways I can. So if anyone out there is working on some awesome initiatives towards making a better sustainable planet, please DM me! Together let’s tackle this and smash it in the face! 👊 Kia kaha.

FDC are excited to hand over the new @rmhwestmead very soon.
With the construction of the new facility, the House prepares for future growth by tripling it’s current capacity. It will cater for up to 60 families at any one time and more than 1,300 families per year. RMH Westmead will contain private bathrooms, a learning centre, kitchens and meeting spaces. As some treatments require isolation, fully self-contained units have been implemented to meet these requests.

Veganism is not a trend...IT IS AN AWAKENING 💙 🍃Animal agriculture is the MAIN contributer to environmental devastation.
🍃 The number 1 cause for deforestation is livestock ranching. Over the past 300 years, deforestation has resulted in a net loss of between 7 and 11 million km^2 of forest. 🍃 Livestuck is the major cause of habitat loss of many species. 🍃The major cause of climate Change are green house gases, like Methane ( produced mainly from cattle) which is 30x more potent than Carbon Dioxide.
🍃Studies have shown that meat is a carcinogen.
🍃~80% of antibiotics produced in the US are fed to farm animals, THAT YOU ARE CONSUMING. 🍃The quality of life of these beautiful sentient beings is extremely unethical. ( They are extremely intelligent, feel, hear like you and I), why should you ignore it? 🙏
🍃82% of the world's starving children live in countries where food is fed to animals that are then killed and eaten by wealthier individuals.
🍃Our physiology shows how we are NOT meant to eat animals, and we have so many resources out there that does not involve animal cruelty, environmental devastation nor THE DEVASTATION OF YOUR BODY AND SPIRIT. 🍃worry about the protein? Where do you think animals get their protein from brothers and sisters? PLANTS.
LET'S UNFUCK THE WORLD
Going vegan is a revolution 🙏💚 #vegan #whyvegan #unfucktheworld #revolution #loveyourbody #sustainability #respectforanimals #loveyourself #honoryourbody #keepyourspiritpure #environmentalissues #veganformyhealth #veganforcompassion #veganfortheplanet

I’ve been meaning to share my update on @abeego beeswax wrap! My mom bought herself a pack of 3 (yay mom!) a few months ago, and they work beautifully! Beeswax is a natural antibacterial, yet the wrap breathes so food lasts longer! It sticks to itself soooo well, and does the job just as well when wrapped around a dish. This durable wrap molds well and becomes stiff (easy to clean) when washed with cold water. I seriously love this wrap - no wonder it’s sold everywhere! Make it into a bag to replace your plastic ones, or wrap it around leftovers instead of plastic cling wrap! Oh, the best part: when your abeego reaches the end of its life (takes years), it fully biodegrades since it’s all natural 😯😍🌱

Three years ago during a late summer night, I was browsing through Netflix and came across a documentary titled ‘Mission Blue’ about an oceanographer and marine biologist named Sylvia Earle and her campaign to create a global network of marine sanctuaries. Naturally, as a lifelong swimmer and ocean child, I hit play. Two hours later, I was certain that I would dedicate my life to conservation and fighting climate change. Dr. Sylvia Earle’s work and life story inspired me in a way that no other scientist had until then. Still craving more information about present-day environmental issues, I returned to Netflix the following night, and watched a documentary titled ‘Virunga’. ‘Virunga’ focuses on the conservation work of the park rangers in Congo’s Virunga National Park and highlights the grave threats that mountain gorillas in the region face due to human conflict and oil exploration. Nature and science became more than just an interest after watching both ‘Mission Blue’ and ‘Virunga’; it became my passion. Three years later, I’ve learned a great deal about climate change and the importance of protecting our planet’s biodiversity and I’m on a mission to share what I’ve learned with people around the world so that they too will feel inspired and compelled to protect nature and are prepared to deal with the effects of climate change. We only have one home and we hold an obligation to protect it.

as someone who has worked in the fashion industry for a few years, and decided to shop in a more ethical and sustainable way, it has become really clear to me how influencers on social media in the industry do have the reach to push for real change if they believe it's important. so I was really excited to see Vanessa from @thpshop.co using her influence to get her community into a conversation about it, to consciously change her business model and sell goods to empower the artisans who make them, taking a stand against fast fashion. our earth needs our help, the people of the earth need our help and a real revolution is happening. 💪🏽 @thehautepursuit

How do you avoid plastic straws? We recommend being proactive - you never know when someone is going to give you one. When you sit down at a restaurant, order coffee at the cafe, or even buy drinks at the bar, say that you prefer no straws with your order. You'll avoid the surprise straw situation entirely 🍸❤️

I just wanted take the time to mention Kirsten Dirksen! I’ve been following her for a few years on YouTube and I absolutely love her work. It all started years back with my love for tiny homes and the whole purpose of owning one. She creates many inspirational videos on sustainable homes and there is a lot of wisdom and inspiration in her videos! There are people of all backgrounds making such unique and functional homes. And you’d never know that such spaces could exist. Homes of all types and all sorts of architectural styles. My heart overflows talking about this. She’s really added to my life! I wish her all the success in the world. Oh and she does it all with her little ones and her husband. #tinyhouse #sustainability #greenliving #kirstendirksen
