Queensland wool growers finally have reason to celebrate. After more than half a decade of drought, and the region losing hundreds of thousands of lambs to wild dogs in recent years, wool prices have hit record highs. Wool grower David Counsell has a 10,000 merino flock at his sheep station in Dunblane, central west Queensland. He says a bale that was worth $800 three years ago now fetches up to $3,500. The reason for the price hike? China. 70 per cent of Australian wool was exported to China this year — and it looks like Asia’s appetite for wool isn’t going down any time soon. 📝: Nicole Bond 📸: Melanie Groves #wool #shearing #merinowool #merino #farm #sheep #queensland #dunblane #china #drought
