🇺🇸Lebanon is a one of the smallest countries in the region, yet it has an exceptionally high number of funds investing in the digital economy. To be precise, Lebanon hosts 13% of the total number of investors in digital economy in the MENA region. You probably guessed it, UAE is first, with 33 %. And you probably guessed it too, this has to do with Circular 331 of the Central Bank in Lebanon, which since 2013, injected $400 million via the Lebanese banks to be invested in the so-called “knowledge economy”: “Banks who got the money decided to give it to investors, more apt to evaluate companies”, says Azza Yehya, research and data director at Arabnet. The number of startups that benefited from the Circular money is estimated to be around 50, employing an average of 10 people each.
Arabnet is still going on tomorrow, at Habtoor Hotel! You can still get a ticket, and a 20 % discount, using the Promocode LBF-jJseA9uyho.
