ARE YOU MAKING THESE FRONT PLANK MISTAKES??
Planks are one of the most commonly performed exercises out there, but unfortunately they’re also one of the most butchered!
@achievefitnessboston owner @laurenpak22 is demonstrating the biggest mistakes we see with planks, which are allowing the lower back to arch and neck to sag down toward the floor. Holding a plank in this positioning reinforces poor alignment, doesn’t engage the muscles you’re trying to work (abs), and leads to discomfort in the lower back.
When you’re setting up your plank, think of creating a straight line from the back of your shoulders to your tailbone. If this is difficult for you to do, try dropping down to your knees and working on your alignment in a modified plank position instead. Even though this may not feel as challenging, it will help you to establish better positioning which will carry over to increased strength and abilities down the road!
