My cousin had her first baby. A boy. I looked for all sorts of gifts but something homemade is always better. I started this little sewing project six weeks ago and broke my machine at the start. Finally opened up the case and knocked this out in 2 hours. I used an @anthropologie doll as inspiration, then free-handed a pattern for a boy version. This was using an old, salvaged button up shirt ready for the garbage, a test sewing strip and the arms of another old blouse. .

These hands have held me throughout my life beginning with my very first moments. Today I watched them work, reminding me of how fun it is to sew... a pastime we enjoyed when I was just a young girl making doll quilts. Sweet Momma, @cathidevore I’m so grateful for you, and for all you’ve taught me. Here’s to our future sewing room, with matching chairs and machines side-by-side, to making a mess of the floor and to the countless projects we’ll certainly pump out and most of all to the lasting memories, good conversations, and lessons that are yet to come.

This jacket is my entry for #smyly2018, which is a sewing challenge that stands for “sewing makes you love yourself” wherein you sew something that makes you feel beautiful and tell your story. I started sewing when I had a newborn baby and had committed my heart to staying home to raise her. I now have four children and have been a stay-at-home mom for 13 years. My mom, also a stay-at-home mom, warned me to “not lose myself”, and I didn’t understand exactly what she meant, but slowly I realized I needed something in my life that wasn’t housework or children. Please don’t misunderstand, my children bring me great joy, but I needed an outlet that unlocked the creativity inside me. I needed something I spent time on that was remembering that I am a person other than mom. I love to wake up and look at something beautiful on my dressform that I created! So, “sewing makes me love myself” because I love what I can do with the skills I’m developing. I make lots of mistakes. This jacket has one huge flaw where I put the pockets too high because I was sewing late at night and was too tired to realize until it was too late 😆. This particular fleece is just too hard to seam rip without ruining the fabric....I’m not doing it. But I love this jacket anyway and it sounds funny to say that a fleece jacket makes me feel beautiful, but it does. I love the navy color and the cut and feel of the jacket. Thank you for reading my long story and I want to thank @hattie_van_der_krohn, @athinakakou and @lisakisch for organizing this challenge. I’ve loved reading, watching and listening to other people’s stories. I love the online sewing community ❤️. #sewing #sewistsofinstagram #isew #simplicity1067 #simplicitypatterns

Black with gold arrow tote bag with a yummy green feathery lining. Who would like her? Only $25 and all proceeds go to charity.

Sometimes you don’t need things perfect, you just need to get them finished. After lots of bias binding it will indeed be that.

My talented & wonderful MIL made me this beautiful quilt for my birthday. I just got it today & it was well worth the wait. It’s absolutely the most beautiful quilt ever! The colors & patterns are just so happy & perfect! Plaids, dogs & daisies! Yes please!
I told myself it was going to be mine & no animal hair would touch for at least a day - well that didn’t happen. 😉 Thank you again @jllent I absolutely love it!! #handmade #sewing #bulldoglove #kittylove
